The Tuks rugby team once again proved why they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of varsity sport. On Saturday, 14 August, Tuks claimed an impressive five of the six titles in the Carlton League finals played at Loftus Versveld.

The battle for the prestigious Carlton Cup between Tuks and Police received the most attention from the crowd. The first half saw both teams score two tries. Tuks flyhalf Renier Wiessener struggled a bit and missed all three of his kicks. Inside center Gerrit Smith took over the job as kicker, and succeeded with all eight of his kicks. He also added a try to this, contributing a total of 24 points to the game and earning himself the title of man of the match. At half-time Police was ahead with 20-18.

Tuks picked up the pace in the second half and managed to get four more tries. Two of these were courtesy of left wing JW Bell, top try scorer of the season with an accumulative 13 tries. Police struggled to add more points to the board and could only produce a penalty, giving them their final three points for the day. Tuks won with a final score of 49-23.

The newly crowned winners will get a two-week break before preparations start for the SAA Club Championships taking place in Stellenbosch from 18-25 September.

Other results of the day were as follows:

Carlton 3rd League: Tuks Pumas won against Police (30-19)
